I took the kids to an air show last Saturday up in Maryland (Geof. was on a backtrip on the Appalachian trail). The event was awesome! I'd been wanting to take Cole for years since he's loved airplanes, and even more, helicopters from a very young age. He was entranced and also overwhelmed by all there was to see. I say the "event" was awesome because the endless amount of lines we had to stand in was NOT. We stood in line for more than an hour just to go through security to get on a bus to take us to the base. Very high security (possibly because it's the closest air force/army base to D.C.??). We were not allowed to bring food in so once we arrived, the kids and I were starving and had to pay astronomical prices for a little pizza we could have bought in the frozen section of the grocery store. That was almost a 2 hour line. I'm serious. The girls slept in the covered stroller, thankfully.., and Cole was kept entertained by the air show above him. It was hot, hot, HOT and I forgot sunscreen, and although Cole and I were quite burnt when we got back on the bus, we were still very glad we went. Oh, and did I mention the line to get back on the bus was another 2 hours? Absolutely crazy. So, the show was just great, but I think next time we'll choose a smaller base for our air show thrills.

I got an email from Cole's teacher saying he did really well on the most recent reading test she gave him. That makes us so happy! He's really improved. Lately, Cole's been coming home from school, taking his shirt off, soaking it in the sink, and running out to the trampoline. He stays out there forever throwing his shirt high up in the air and catching it all while doing crazy flips and jumps. I'm so grateful for that trampoline, let me tell you..

What you just described sounds just like the air shows here. It's crazy how many people go. The show must be worth it (I've never been). You are amazing to have taken all 3 of your kids and faced that alone. I am glad it was worth it.
Love the video of Cole. Funny that he likes to get his shirt wet. It's like an instant homemade toy. Carmen has a ton of energy like that. We might need a trampoline. :)

You are a very patient mom to stand in all those lines. I'm glad it was worth it. I swear you are as tiny as your kids! Looks like a fun day!

My trampoline has been my lifesaver with Samuel! Everytime I see him out there on it, I think it is worth its weight in gold!

Ohhhhhh how I love your "nut-ball"!!! Dang he's getting so tall, and before we know it, he'll be passing the sacrament, needing deodorant and then heading off for his mission. That air show was great as we can see in the photos. (thanks!!) but to have such lines, and high prices for needed food--a shame. I took at least Fenton to the air shows in Anchorage. You're a good mom Darla. too many mom's won't go places without their hubby's-which is fine if they're available, but you'd miss out on too much if you're afraid to go alone. I think the trampoline is the best gift for children, even if a few bones may get broken. So glad you have one. love you, Mom

Darla, in case you end up some day with what you "KNOW" will be a painful sunburn and miserable night, try the "Norwegian shower" as soon as you can get to a shower. If you've forgotten, let me know and I'll send it your way.

Cole looks like he's in heaven at the show-- he seems in awe-- how neat to capture that on film, hopefully the pictures will offset of the sacrifice-- ugh, lines and waiting-- bleh!

Darla,
Thanks for checking in with me a few weeks ago. Time is flying, except when your waiting in line. Sorry about that but I would have done it too for my boy. Little Brennen is big into airplanes and helicopters too and also all cars. He would have loved it. I think I will look around for a local one. Loves!
